Hurts live at Brixton Academy and At Your Inconvenience

My Halloween evening was spent queueing in the cold to meet the gorgeous, talented Professor Green, and getting a signed copy of his new album At Your Inconvenience. I do have a picture with the man himself, but when it was taken I'd been waiting in the cold for half an hour after a mad rush of buses and repeatedly stabbing myself in the eye with liquid eyeliner, so for the purposes of your eyesight I'd rather not post it.

After I heard the sample, I didn't think much of At Your Inconvenience, but after properly listening to the whole thing, I realised how actually good it is. One of my favourite songs is Astronaut, a surprisingly tender song that is beautiful in a slightly depressing way. But then again, I am a sucker for any songs with pianos and lyrics that tell a story.

On the 4th November, I also got to see Hurts for the second time. If you haven't heard them, you need go and listen to them right now. I first got to see them in July at Somerset House in London, which is such a beautiful venue. I thought nothing could beat it, but I was wrong. This time, I saw them in the Brixton O2 Academy.
Thanks to my friend having an O2 phone, we got to the second row. And it was hands down the best night of my life. I can't properly explain what it was like, it was way beyond every synonym of "amazing" in the world. I have seen Hurts live before, in July, but this was even better. Of course the fact that Kylie Minogue was there contributed, singing on Devotion and Confide In Me, smiling away while Theo Hutchcraft pulled agonised faces and clutched at his heart (as you can see in the awful quality picture below). The noise the crowd made for Hurts was deafening enough, but when she came on stage, I have never heard louder screams in my life.
Highlights were Wonderful Life (purely because hearing your favourite song live is the best thing ever) Evelyn (can't beat the microphone smashing) The Water (youtube it. The ridiculously high notes at the end made me jump out of my skin) and Stay (ruining my vocal chords yelling "STAAAAY" is always fun).
What a week. And what a way for Hurts to end their tour. Absolutely dying to hear the music that they come out with next.
All I can say is, if you get the opportunity to see these men live, for the love of God, go and see them.
